How I Transformed My Life With 75-Hard

Turning Point

Sometimes you get to a point where you just know you need a good kick in the ass.

For reals.

This is how I felt in 2020 right after the pandemic hit.

Lockdown definitely caused a lot of us to do some self-reflection, and I took a good look at my life and realized I felt like I was settling..

Like I had a lot more potential and was ready to do something about it.

This was mainly in regards to my health and willpower, but also to accomplish ALL of my overarching goals in life.

I was tired of going back and forth between having “good” days and “bad” days (or weeks, or months) of eating, working out, or doing the things that moved the needle closer to accomplishing life goals.

I knew that my willpower at that time was weak.

I decided I needed to stop playing small, challenge myself, and really follow through.

I didn’t just need to stick to a “diet,” exercise routine, or strict schedule-

What I needed was to gain some SELF-DISCIPLINE.

Then, I found a video about the 75 Hard challenge that posed itself as a “mental toughness” challenge.

It also got people (who followed through) in really good shape.

Here’s how it works:

75-Hard Challenge Rules

The challenge rules would scare most people off.

I get it.

What’s scarier (and what gives the challenge its accountability factor) is that it’s a 75-day challenge where you perform 5 tasks consistently each day, and if you FAIL at just one of those tasks, you have to start over on day 1.

Yep.

Self-accountability, but accountability nonetheless.

Here are the daily rules/tasks:

1) take a progress picture

2) drink 1 gallon of water

3) do 2 45-minute workouts - separately, and 1 MUST be outside

4) follow a diet (a healthy one) with no cheat meals

5) read 10 pages of a non-fiction book

Did I do all of these perfectly, every day?

No, but I stayed very consistent and didn’t miss anything 2 days in a row.

I also didn’t reach the full 75 days.

I reached 60, and still felt amazing with myself and my results 😄

Breaking The Plateau

It’s a mental toughness challenge, but yeah, I was also eager for the getting in shape part.

Of course, we don’t get the results we want on day 2, or day 5, or 10, and maybe longer, but let me tell ya..

The only way we can break the plateau is by staying consistent.

This is a huge lesson I (finally) learned and why I LOVE creating habits.

What helped me stick with the program was kind of divine timing with the book I chose to read for my 10 pages a day..

Atomic Habits by James Clear.

I was learning how habits worked (how REPETITION makes a habit stick),

practicing creating new habits (by doing the 75-hard tasks every day),

and strengthening my self-discipline BIG time.

The Amazing Results

Going through those 60 days of my version (meaning the “diet” and exercise I chose) of the 75-hard challenge was the best things I ever did for myself.

I’m not exaggerating.

I felt the best I’ve ever felt in my life - on the inside and outside.

The inside:

Besides the mental toughness I was gaining, doing those 5 tasks every day meant investing time and energy in myself, and with each day that went by that I accomplished them, not only did my self-discipline grow, but my self-love did too.

I was learning to trust myself by doing what I said I would do.

I realized that I can do hard things!

I learned that I was worth putting in the effort to better myself.

I appreciated myself for doing this for myself.

I learned that I was in control of my life.

That alone is worth trying out the challenge, or a version of it for yourself.

The outside:

2 45-minute workouts?

You better believe there were physical results, lol.

I lost a stubborn 15 pounds that I tried to get off for YEARS.

My body and even my skin totally transformed.

I looked so much healthier and had a glow from the inside out 🌟

Other people noticed it too, and it felt incredible!

My self-confidence skyrocketed because I felt better in my body and loved and respected myself so much more.

I was exponentially happier.

I realized we really can do anything we put our minds to, and can always get better at anything we want to.

All around with the physical, mental, and self-love transformation, I was quite obviously a new person.

I became an even better version of myself.

Compared to what I was feeling before starting the challenge, I was proud of myself, and felt I now had the key to completely elevate my life and reach a higher potential whenever and however I want.

And damn, that feels good!

Encouragement To Start

Of course, do your research and see if it feels good to you..

If it doesn’t, maybe you can try your own version of 75 Hard with similar tasks that feel more sustainable.

Maybe it’s just about deeply setting new habits into your life by practicing the consistent 75-day accountability rule.

Or maybe try 50 days.

The point is, it’s worth it to put in the work to create better habits for yourself, and build your own self-discipline, self-confidence, and self-love 💖

You totally deserve it.
