How to Start Segment Intending

You know that feeling when everything is just working out..

When it all just seems to come together and one thing seamlessly rolls into the other.

It almost feels like you’re dancing in perfect harmony with the Universe 💃

I LOVE those moments

And often when they come up, I wonder...

How do I make this last?

Ever since I started to recognize that magical feeling, I’ve kind of made it my mission to figure out just that -

How to feel that magical alignment more often!

Well.. that’s what led me to want to deep dive into segment intending!

(Basically, meaning being more intentional with moments in your day so you can be more aligned and in creation mode).

Segment intending allows us to pre-pave our path,

Set sail in the direction we want to go,

AND stay in tune with our higher self (my favorite part).

In my last blog, I talked about many benefits of segment intending and how it can be a game changer for how we enjoy life and even attract more.

That’s the WHY.

This blog talks about the HOW.

Before diving in..

A crucial point I want to mention first is that we want to practice this into an automatic habit.

One of my philosophies for fit living inspired is all about making life easier and more enjoyable.

So to ENJOY the benefits of being more intentional throughout our day,

We want to put in the reps, or practice, so that it becomes EASY for us to do.

We want to make it a habit that our subconscious automates for us.

Intentional living becomes part of our identity and the beautiful evolution of ourselves ✨

I have a lot of tips and ideas on how to do this, and have been putting them into practice myself lately.

>> email me at mel@fitlivinginspired.com to get the list! <<

It truly is transforming the way I look at all these moments (or segments) of my everyday day life.

I’m able to be more present in the moment, more focused on what I’m doing, get more things done to completion, do less multi-tasking, course correct when I need to, self-reflect, and take a breather more often..

So much.

And so beneficial.

Here’s a quick exercise on how you can start segment intending today!

  1. Clarify your routine

A quick exercise that would be super helpful is to get a blank page and write out the most obvious segments of your day -

    Your current routine 📝

This will show you your basic task-switching “triggers.”

    Example:

    • Morning Routine

      1. Wake up, get ready

      2. Meditate, stretch, journal

      3. Breakfast

      4. Go to work

    • Afternoon Routine

      1. (Different segments within work like check email, lunch, etc.)

      2. Leave work, pick up kids, get home

      3. Workout, shower

    • Evening Routine

      1. Dinner

      2. Homework, relax with family

      3. Get ready for bed

Then of course, you can break down these bigger basic tasks into smaller ones as you wish.

    For example:

    • Workout:

      • Get dressed and prep workout gear, stretch, warm up, pump it!, cool down.

    • Also, we all know that how we begin our day will pave the way for the rest of the day.

The easiest time and place to remember and start segment intending is right away when you pop those peepers open in the morning! 👀

  2. Clarify your intentions

    Now for the fun part!

For each segment you wrote down for your routine (however general or detailed you were),

Write a few words or sentences about:

    • What you love about that segment already

    • How you want that segment to go - the best-case scenario

    • What you want to feel during that segment

    • *You can even think about things you don’t like about that segment,

Which gives you even more clarity on what you’d rather have/experience instead.

Use that contrast to your advantage!

      Example:

      • Wake up, get dressed and ready - happy, calm, smiling, eager to start the day, grateful, attractive

      • Meditate, stretch, journal - relaxed, calm, inspired, self-motivated, flexible, accomplished, positive

      • Breakfast - healthy, delicious, filling, sustaining, abundant, creative

      • Go to work - safe, excited, ready, eager, connected, ready to co-create with others

        • different segments within work time - focused, in flow, present, successful, progressing, valuable, patient, easy, meaningful

      • Leave work, pick up kids, get home - safe, excited, loving, grateful, patient, kind, happy

      • Workout, shower - energized, eager, pumped, ready, proud, inspired, fun, refreshed

      • Dinner - healthy, creative, easy, connected with family

      • Homework, relax with family - helpful, playful, patient, kind, connected, fulfilled

      • Get ready for bed - grateful, fulfilled, relaxed, calm, loving, positive

  • If you want to go the extra mile.. 🏃‍♂️

It might be fun to get a sticky note out,

And in each of the places where your segment starts (the trigger spot)

Put a sticky note there with your intentions and how you want to feel written out!

This could be a really fun reminder until you start remembering on your own and it becomes a subconscious thought.

And.. you can keep changing or adding things to your intention sticky note as you go too!

    Keep evolving 😉

The bottom line..

  • To live intentionally, it’s going to help to care about how you feel and know what you want.

  • There’s no shortcut to building habits and self-discipline around practicing something new and creating a positive behavior change.

There’s not usually a quick fix to anything that substantial, impactful, and sustainable.

This is where practice and putting in the reps come in..

That’s the FITness in fit living inspired -

We’re building our fitness for making healthy habits, positive changes, and reaching and maintaining a high vibration.

We’ve gotta stay fli to stay high ;)

  • When it comes to segment intending (and really any habit you’re trying to build)

There’s always a trigger or cue for starting that habit.

That trigger is really just task-switching.

Allow yourself to get in flow with a current task and with your set intention,

Then when it’s time to shift

Take that beat and go into the next segment.

  • Don’t make it hard, and don’t beat yourself up

Just practicing segment intending in more situations will build that habit and carve that neural pathway

So you can enjoy the benefits of living more intentionally throughout your day and LIFE!

I hope you enjoy trying this out!

I’m still practicing all of these myself, and I know I nerd out on this stuff, but I’m enjoying every bit of it.

Let me know how you like to set your intention and savor the moments of your day!

I would love to know 😊

Next up, we’ll be diving into another one of my favorite things..

Setting up ROUTINES for an easy flow of segment intending where paving our current path helps pre-pave the way down our next path,

Making things flow even more smoothly!

Stay fli!
