How to Stop Reacting and Start Creating | Segment Intending

If you’re reading this, I’m sure you have a lot of things to do and want to get done.

I’m right there with you.

And.. I bet you’re interested in topics about how to get more things done in a more efficient, easy, and enjoyable way.

Me too!

That’s why I’m here writing this :)

I totally get that sometimes having a lot to do can seem kind of fun and exciting, and give us a sense of importance and purpose.

Other times though, our ambitious to-do lists can become overwhelming, and we end up feeling like we’re playing catch-up and just not having that much fun anymore.

When that happens, we can feel like we’re reacting to life around us instead of creating it- getting tripped up over our own resistance and the contrast that’s always naturally presenting itself.

This post is all about getting back into creation mode, enjoying more of what we’re doing, and letting the universe help us out a little more along the way.

How do we do this?

One thing I’ve been learning and playing with is using segment intending.

Segment Intending

Uh… what is this?

I’ll explain..

A segment is a moment in time when you might have a specific intention.

A new segment is when your intention changes from the last segment.

For example, your alarm goes off in the morning, you open your eyes, switch it off, and walk to the bathroom to start getting ready.

That’s a segment - waking up.

The next segment is brushing your teeth, washing your face, putting in your contacts, etc. - getting ready.

Then the next segment might be meditating, stretching, journaling, or doing a workout - your morning self-care.

You get it :)

Your intention for that segment might be something that’s most important to you, how you want to feel, or what you want to experience.

So basically, segment intending means making a clear statement of intent for the upcoming moment.

The Benefits of Segment Intending

Segment intending allows you to be proactive in how you want to feel going into the next segment.

You pave the way for yourself- priming a path of least resistance (and a path of more allowance), which can offer you more significant, magical, and powerful moments, and.. more often!

And when you step on this path, momentum can begin to flow in the direction that you’re setting your intention.

When the momentum can build and start flowing, that’s usually when we feel like the Universe is helping us out ;)

Speaking of flow…

Segment intending reminds me a lot of flow state because you’re giving yourself a focus- a place to put your attention for a set (or not set) amount of time where you can be present and totally immersed in what you’re doing with less distraction.

(The distractions being outside forces that we encounter just living life.)

And as I paraphrased in my recent post, Andrew Huberman, professor of neurobiology and ophthalmology at Stanford School of Medicine, stated:

When we’re more focused and present on whatever it is that we’re doing, even if it’s something we don’t typically enjoy, we tend to enjoy it more.

Therefore, when we segment intend (priming our path, allowing momentum to flow, being present) we can increase our happiness and pleasure from the experience!

On that happy note, what practicing this also does is prepare yourself to recognize the good things or good feelings when they meet you.

This is because by setting your intention (and without introducing resistance) you’re becoming a vibrational match to what you want to experience by activating that vibration within yourself first.

Everything starts with vibration.

This is also like aligning to your highest self so you show up and act as him/her, while being open to receiving the guidance and magic you’re wanting and expecting to feel.

What this has the potential to do is keep you stronger aligned with what you want to feel and experience and not be a victim of conditions outside of yourself.

This, I believe, is what Abraham Hicks refers to as “getting ahead of it” - letting yourself dominate the energy stream and set the tone of your vibration.

Now, how do we do this?

I’m going to dive deeper into these in the next post, so stay tuned ;)

But here’s the gist of these golden nuggets on how to segment intend:

  • Feel and calibrate to the vibration you’re wanting to experience.

  • Declare it. Think it to yourself, or say it out loud.

  • Savor the good and milk it!

  • Showing up as if. Being it, not strive for it.

  • Check in with yourself and relax to align with your higher self.

  • Visualize, visualize, visualize!

  • When you can’t zone in on your desired intention without resistance, zone out and get more general.

  • Spend time prepping your environment to get in the mood and make things easy.

  • Don’t judge yourself. That’s just another distraction throwing you off your path.

  • Keep practicing! By paving the path for the current moment, your next moment will be a bit more pre-paved too, making your experiences more smooth :) (Stay tuned for an upcoming post about this too!)

In summary…

Learning how to segment intend throughout our day from moment to moment is an easy way to practice getting out ahead of our life a bit more, become less reactionary, more creative, and experience more magic and what we want.

Segment intending can also help us stay more in alignment with our higher selves and enjoy life more because we’re syncing up with what we want vibrationally before taking physical action.

Our actions can then become less reactive and more inspired, staying in congruence with our purpose and what we wish to experience in life.

For myself, practicing this more and more has been extremely rewarding.

I’m in no way perfect at it, and yes, I forget a lot of the time between segments to set my intention, but when I do remember, I find myself so much more focused, enjoying what I’m doing, and getting shit done that matters most to me 🤍

And of course, the more I practice this, the better I get, the more I remember to do it, the easier it is, and the more automatic it will get.

If you practice this already or decide to start trying yourself, I would love to hear your feedback!

I hope this helps you on your journey too!
