Monthly Moon Magic Cleaning Routine

I’ve never been one of those girls to feel super “tuned in” to my own energy and how I feel, but knew I always wanted to be..

Until now.

Lately, I’ve become interested in understanding the female hormonal cycle.

After all, understanding our hormones and the cycles they go through has a LOT to do with understanding ourselves as humans.

Especially as women (aka goddesses 💃🏼)

What grabbed my attention most was how balancing our hormones and energy had a lot to do with how the feminine cycle relates to the moon cycle and nature’s changing seasons.

This parallel is the perfect reminder of how nature cyclically balances her energy, both earthly and cosmically, and shows us how we can balance our own.

Once I understood this, I started to change how I plan and distribute my energy through the weeks, days, and daily tasks.

I started to change how I live my life, and.. I started to listen and tune into my body and inner being.

One of the biggest lessons I learned was that..

it’s more about harmonizing energy instead of trying to balance it.

Balancing takes more effort, whereas harmonizing is more go with the flow of your energy.

The way I’ve been going with the flow is by following the ebb and flow of the phases of the moon - waxing, full, waning, and new.

One of my favorite ways to exercise this harmony in my life is with my cleaning routine.. and that’s why you’re here today 😊

I used to try to thoroughly clean our entire place every single week.

All the rooms.

Dusting, sanitizing, sweeping, mopping, and sometimes organizing.

All of the freaking rooms in our home.

All in the same week.

It was too much.

I was burnt out by it, never got it all done, our home never felt totally clean all at once, and felt like I failed.

I knew there had to be a better way.

And there was!

After using the moon and seasonal cycles, I started harmonizing - not balancing - my cleaning schedule, because sometimes I have the energy and motivation, and sometimes I need the rest.

This has been a GAME CHANGER.

And this is where the magic is ✨

Instead of cleaning our entire space every week, I broke it down into sections while maintaining my minimal daily tasks.

Below, I share my breakdown.

Firstly, if you’re not that familiar with the moon cycle, here’s a quick visual below for the breakdown in energy and how it relates to the seasons & female cycle.

Now here’s how to get started:

Breakdown and label each week of the month into 4 according to:

  1. where you are in your feminine cycle (if you’re cycling)

  2. or the moon cycle

Here are the 4 phases of each feminine, moon, and season:

  • 🌸 Follicular | Waxing Moon | Spring

  • ☀️ Ovulation | Full Moon | Summer

  • 🍁 Luteal | Waning Moon | Fall

  • ❄️ Menstrual | New Moon | Winter

Example shown below.. labeling your weeks based on either the moon or feminine cycle:

Now, just follow the clean routine below, starting with whatever phase you’re in right now!

CLEAN ROUTINE:

🌸 Follicular | Waxing Moon | Spring

Bathrooms

  • bleach soak showers & toilets

  • clean toilets

  • scrub shower/tub

  • clean counters

  • dust

  • trash

  • sweep & mop

Outside Space

  • wash/dust furniture

  • sweep

  • wash windows

  • arrange plants, etc.

The reason:

  • Energy: Our energy is picking up!

  • Space: The bathrooms are where we freshen up, and the outdoor space is where get fresh air & sunshine, and maybe even garden.

☀️ Ovulation | Full Moon | Summer

Kitchen & Living

  • clean microwave

  • wipe down counters & cabinets

  • wipe down appliances

  • dust living room - top to bottom

  • lint roll* (for pet hair)

  • sweep & mop

Pets

  • bathroom area

  • comb

  • clip nails

  • clean & fill food & water bowls

The reason:

  • Energy: Our energy is at it’s peak and we’re ready to party! (though keep getting good rest at night to recharge)

  • Space: This is where we socialize the most, so that’s why we’re focusing on this area. Be ready to host or go to parties and such 🥳 (like moon parties!) It’s a good time to charge up our furry little love batteries too 🐈🐕

🍁 Luteal | Waning Moon | Fall

Bedrooms

  • fan

  • dust - top to bottom

  • windows

  • trash

  • sweep

  • mop

The reason:

  • Energy: It’s time to start winding down and preparing for the winter’s hibernation phase.

  • Space: Our bedrooms will be primed for getting our best sleep!

❄️ Menstrual | New Moon | Winter

Declutter

  • room & area of choice

Pets

  • bathroom area

  • comb

  • clip nails

  • clean & fill food & water bowls

The reason:

  • Energy: Our energy is at it’s lowest. Embrace it and relax!

  • Space: This is a great time to release, simplify and clear our space for new growth in the spring!

Last, but not least..

Since I broke down our home into sections over the “moonth,” I still wanted every room to feel clean even though it wasn’t that room’s turn yet.

This is where adopting a little habit comes into play:

Leave a space cleaner than you found it.

This meant keeping my messes contained, putting things back where I found them, and when I was done in one room, I’d leave it like I was never there.

To my surprise, each room stayed clean, especially with the help of my simple daily quick cleans:

SIMPLE DAILY QUICK CLEAN:

  • Morning:

    • fix bed

    • laundry

    • dishes (unload washer)

  • Evening:

    • laundry

    • kitchen

      • dishes (load washer)

      • wipe counters

      • sweep/mop* (when needed)

    • tidy up (put things away, fluff pillows, etc.)

Harmonizing my energy with my cleaning routine using the moon cycle as my guide has helped me:

    • enjoy every phase of the clean routine

    • avoid burnout

    • have more time for other things (besides cleaning all day and using cleaning as a way to procrastinate)

    • honor my energy

    • set good intentions into each space of our home

Best of all, our home feels thoroughly clean!

I’m able to give my attention to each space and connect with it on a different level because of how I see and relate it to nature’s four seasons, the cosmic energy of the moon, and my own feminine (goddess) energy! ✨
