Syncing With Moon Energy🌙

I’ve become a little obsessed with the idea of making just about everything in life easier and more enjoyable.

And since I’m a die-hard optimist (or maybe I’m just crazy)..

I think we can.

I’m not just talking about a perspective shift here..

(Though that is no small undertaking.)

I’m talking about tangible ways we can simplify our lives while living them better and enjoy the heck out of doing it.

It’s intentional lifestyle design that comes from the belief that life is meant to be enjoyed and we are here to expand our consciousness as spiritual beings.

Anyway.. my hopeful pursuit led me to read a book called “Do Less” by Kate Northrup.

I mean, who doesn’t want to do less so that they can do more of what they love?

More naps and bubble baths, anyone?

What took me by surprise about this book, was that it touched on some “woo woo” stuff about how we (females especially) can better work with the cosmic energy of the moon cycle to live more balanced lives.

What Northrup was mainly getting at was that the moon cycle is related to the female hormonal cycle and we can use it as a guide to better understand and utilize our hormones, energy, and maybe even mood.

Um, yes, please.

Tell me more!

When we get in touch with how our energy and hormones fluctuate through our cycles, we can work with our energy instead of against it, which depletes our energy further.

All of which seems like an incredible bonus of helping to balance our hormones.

At the same time, when we pay attention to the lunar cycle, we can use the moon phases as a guide to plan out and balance our energy further.

So… now I’m on a moon journey, and I invite you to come along with me!

Why am I embarking on this journey now, and why am I so pumped about it?

I want more energy to do the things I really want to do, not just what I need to do.

And because, just like everyone else (especially the mamas out there), I want to feel less exhausted and be able to be more present with myself and my loved ones.

So here it is.. 5 ways you can sync with your cycle and the moon’s, thus making our lives a little easier and more enjoyable 😊

1. Be aware and track the cycles 🔁

Your cycle..

And the moon’s 🌙

The reasons the feminine cycle is tied to the lunar cycle are:

  • they last about the same amount of time - ~28-30 days

  • they have 4 phases:

    • menstrual = new moon = “winter season”

    • follicular = waxing moon = “spring season”

    • ovulation = full moon = “summer season”

    • luteal = waning moon = “fall season”

  • moonlight affects our circadian rhythm as we sleep, thus affecting our energy

  • (it’s also thought that the moon’s gravitational pull affects our bodily fluids, but this is not highly supported by scientific research, so leaving it out for now)

Let me first start off by clarifying that our cycles don’t have to be synced up with the moon.

The point here is awareness.

(Though by simply becoming more aware of the moon cycle, you may actually be more apt to sync up with it 😉)

By keeping in mind where you’re at in your cycle, and what phase the moon is in, or better yet, physically tracking the cycles on your calendar, you’re better able to see patterns in your energy and get more of a sense of what your body needs during each phase.

If you’re already good about tracking your cycle, that’s amazing.

Otherwise, if you’re just starting like I am, here’s a simple way to get going:

  1. Learn your cycle.

    How long is your cycle?

A full cycle starts from the first day of menstruation to the next first day of menstruation.

So.. what day did your menstrual cycle start, how many days did it last, and when was the first day of your next period?

You can easily track this by marking whatever calendar you use, or by using an app (there’s lot’s out there).

  2. Learn the moon cycle.

From the full moon to the new moon, it’s waning.. getting smaller 🌕 ➡️ 🌑

Then from the new moon to the full moon, it’s waxing.. getting bigger 🌑 ➡️ 🌕

Here’s a quick look at the cycle:

What is the current phase of the moon, and where are you at in your cycle?

Are you just finishing your menstrual phase and the moon is starting to wax?

Are you just starting your menstrual phase and the moon is full?

Remember.. it doesn’t matter if you’re synced up with the moon, it’s about being aware of the cycles so we can tap into that feminine power!

2. Pay attention to the energies ⚡

Now that you’re aware of and perhaps tracking your and the moon’s cycle, it’s time to go a little deeper, tune in, and track your energy during each phase.

(This is where journaling comes in handy.)

During each phase of each cycle, take a moment to ask yourself..

What’s your energy like?

What’s your mood like?

What is your body and soul craving?

Here are some things to consider when thinking about your energy:

  • mood

  • emotions

  • physical energy level

  • hunger

  • food cravings

  • social interaction

  • sleep quality

  • libido

Everyone is different, but here are the general feelings during each phase of the female and moon cycle:

After getting an idea of how you feel during each phase, you can plan your month, week, and days according to where your energy is.

This is how we start to work with our energy and optimize our energy management!

3. Utilize the energy in your daily life

Since the phases of the lunar cycle follow a natural rhythm that keeps our planet balanced and working in harmony, when we mimic or rather get back in touch with this rhythm, we too can become more harmonious in our lives.

For example, the waning moon is our fall season 🍂

Just like our wind-down routine for bed, this is where we’re nourishing ourselves and preparing for the next morning and our brief hibernation during the winter season ❄️ - the new moon phase.

We’re finishing dinner, cleaning up, and maybe pampering ourselves a little with self-care.

Then we turn out the lights, crawl into bed, and are ready to drift into sweet, sweet slumbering dreamland.

In the morning, we wake to our spring season 🌷 - rising with the sun, building our momentum, planning, and getting excited to start our day.

Then our summer season 🌞 in the afternoon represents peak energy (following the sun’s highest point in the sky) where we’re taking intentional action on our plans, getting things done, moving ourselves forward, and living the dream.

Thinking of the phases like this makes it so easy and helpful to remember to take care of ourselves..

  • To wind down and nourish ourselves (preventing burn-out)

  • rest and simplify

  • brainstorm and plan

  • and then take solid action and celebrate!

And then.. repeat 😊

This is a balanced and harmonious lifestyle where we’re cyclically doing less so we can do more.

And this is how we make life easier and more enjoyable!

My personal moon journey is going to include me using the cycles to plan and organize my…

  • personal daily and recurring to-do’s

  • routines - for workout, cleaning, and self-care

  • business to-do’s - like when to plan, create content, schedule, and film

  • social events - like moon gatherings and date nights

  • meal planning - what foods are best to eat during my menstrual cycle

4. Work with your sleep routine 💤

Since light exposure affects our circadian rhythm, we can work specifically with our night routine to get more in sync with the moon and in balance with nature.

How?

  1. Create a wind-down routine when the sun goes down

I love a good wind-down routine, and it’s crucial to getting good sleep.

Winding down means getting comfortable and prepared for deep rest so you can wake up feeling refreshed and ready to live your best life!

5 quick & easy ways to wind down:

    • watch the sunset
you can take a walk or sit outside; make it an event or sweet thing to do with your loved ones ♥️

    • dim the lights
start turning overhead lights off and using warmer lighting to create a relaxing ambiance 🕯️

    • turn down the air
cooler temperatures at night help prepare you to sleep and improve sleep quality ❄️

    • avoid screens
avoid blue light that blocks melatonin - the hormone that helps you sleep and regulate your circadian rhythm; you can wear blue blockers too 😎

    • do some self-care
my favorite self-care is to do a body moisturizing massage, take a bubble bath, or make a cup of decaf tea and read 🍵

  2. Take a moon bath on the full moon

This is something I just learned about, and I absolutely love the idea.

During the evening of a full moon, go outside for about 15 minutes or so to bask in the moonlight.

You could also open the blinds and windows and let the moonlight into your room.

Exposure to the full moon’s light is culturally thought to help regulate the female hormonal cycle and calibrate to the natural light and brightness of the Earth during the full moon period.

(We are Earthlings after all! 👽🌍)

  3. Sleep in total darkness

Especially, during or closer to the new moon when the sky is the darkest to again, mimic nature.

To help regulate your circadian rhythm, it’s recommended to not sleep with any light at all if possible since light exposure during the night inhibits the production of melatonin.

That might mean using black-out curtains and putting away or covering artificial light-emitting technology in your bedroom.

5. Practice moon rituals 🔮

This is by far, my favorite way to get in sync with the lunar energies 🤗

Developing moon rituals, whether around the full, new, or even the quarters, is a great way to better understand and utilize lunar energy as well as our own.

You can use this time to express and reflect on what you’ve been feeling lately, what you want to manifest in your life, what you need to let go of, etc.

It’s also a great time to express your feminine energy alongside other women.

I love using moon gatherings as a way to socialize and keep my female relationships strong.

I gather my friends with some good food and drinks, even pull out my tarot cards and crystals, and we end up having deeper conversations that help us connect on another level.

We usually celebrate what we’ve accomplished and where we are, share what we’re doing, clearly identify what we’re ready to change or let go of, and chat about how we might do that.

It’s an extremely positive experience.

It helps us share wisdom, keep ourselves and each other accountable, and.. it’s just plain soul-nourishing 💖

Overall, learning about the moon and feminine cycles has taught me how to connect to, work with, and embrace our feminine energy and design our life to better support us.

We all want to feel our best, feel fulfilled, and reach our goals.. and we want it to be easier and more fun!

I hope sharing my own journey gives a little spark of inspiration or encouragement to embark on your own!
