Help! I feel sad right now..

I’m betting that at one point (or maybe even right now) you’ve had the Sunday Blues or suddenly felt super lonely and sad for what seems like no good reason.

It feels a little like dread, doom, gloom, and that life is just difficult and meant to be so.

It might feel like depression.. and it if you think it is, it would be a good idea to talk to a healthcare professional.

But every once in a while, a feeling like this can come up and it’s totally normal.

A few weeks ago, this blue feeling hit me hard out of nowhere.

I was at home alone at night with my baby watching a documentary and I suddenly felt this anxious feeling of loneliness and sadness.

As soon as it hit, I immediately felt like I had to do something to get rid of it as fast as possible!

But how can you get rid of a feeling that immobilizes you and makes you feel like you’re stuck in a hole?

I spent a lot of time with this feeling, especially during High School that carried on into my working adult years, and then of course, I felt it big time after a big breakup.

Over the past few years, though, I’ve not only learned ways to cope with these feelings when they come up so that I can get out of them, and get out of them faster, but I also learned how to stay genuinely happier so they come up less often in the first place.

That’s why I’m writing this blog.

I would love it if I could go back and tell my younger self these tips so I could have saved myself so much energy on lower-vibration emotions.

But that’s where we can be of service to others - share what we’ve learned through our own experience.

In this blog, I will go over all the best tips I know about getting rid of the blues..

  • faster

  • in a healthy way

  • reducing the frequency

  • and reframing them to take advantage when they do hit

Let’s get into it.

These are purposefully listed in an order that you can start slowly with, and then rev up on as you start climbing out of the blues.

Also, look for the 🌟 for how to amplify these tips!

  1. Meditate on it

I know we can naturally want to avoid this..

But we risk not learning how to cope with or learn how to avoid this feeling going forward if we don’t acknowledge it.

    Literally, sit with it.

Be quiet with yourself for a moment.

    Ask yourself:

    • What does it feel like?

    • Where in your body are you feeling its presence the most?

    • What does it look like?

    • What color, shape, or texture would it have?

    • Why do you think it’s here right now?

    • What is it here to bring your attention to?

    • What is it here to teach you?

🌟 Amplify this by journaling to these prompts.

You might be surprised what comes out if you allow yourself to talk to yourself.

  2. Take advantage of this time.

    You heard me.. advantage.

The first step in learning how to take advantage of the blues is to learn that you can change your perspective.

Think of this feeling as a cloud in the sky ☁️

Clouds are always moving and morphing into different shapes, and some disappear altogether.

Whatever your “cloud” is looking like right now, it’s shifting.

At first glance, it might look kind of scary, but since it’s always moving and changing, let your mind play with how you want to see it.

Maybe that scary monster turns into a rabbit chasing a butterfly 🦋

    This is reframing.

You’re starting to write a new, more positive story for yourself.

Instead of thinking this feeling or alone time is sad and lonely, declare it as time to do inner work.

🌟 The importance of declaring it as something a bit more positive is because you will eventually pick up on a thought where you last left it, so this is leaving it in a better place.

Also, think of the phases of the moon.

The full moon represents when you’re at your peak energy, going out, connecting with friends, etc.

The new moon is the lowest energy phase where you might want to stay in more, rest, practice gratitude, etc. 🌚

Especially if you’re female, this might be your sign to start learning about your menstrual cycle.

We ladies are on a 28-ish day cycle and sync with the moon’s energy.

This is hella fun to work with (plus, I love doing moon rituals) and I highly recommend checking out my moon cycle daily planner 🌙

This time is the best time to connect to your inner being and higher self.

This is the best time to reflect, grow, and transform from the inside out.

Feel yourself out, get to know yourself better, and love yourself.

Of course, this brings me to the next tip..

  3. Become your own best friend

As mentioned above, this is an opportunity to connect with yourself and love YOU.

You are the most important person in your life.

Doesn’t it make sense to spend time with yourself?

The best way to do this is, in my opinion, is journaling.

    Journal about..

    • all the reasons you should be proud of yourself

    • all the things you’re doing right

    • all the things you’re working on

    • and all the things you’re grateful for.

The key here is to stay positive and encouraging to yourself- as if you are talking to your childhood self.

See yourself as the 5-year-old little girl or boy and let that sweet baby know that he or she is okay ♥️

Love that little boy or girl.

    Really see them.

    Be proud of them.

    Be there for them.

    And be their best friend.

🌟 Make some herbal tea while you journal.

It feels like a hug from the inside out and the scent is uplifting 🍵

  4. Take a walk outside

Chances are, you’re feeling this blue feeling when you’re stuck in the house.

    Am I right?

    Get a change of scenery.

    Be out in nature 🌴

Get some sun for that free serotonin mood stabilizer.

🌟 Make it a point to look people in the eye and smile at them, or even say good morning or hello.

    Get some interaction!

  5. Do a workout

You’ll find this tip listed just about anywhere when it comes to how to get in a better mood.

But there’s a darn good reason.

Exercise is like free medicine, and in this case, a free happy pill 💊

You get those lovely endorphins from working out that act like a pain reliever, stress reliever, and mood booster.

You don’t have to go super hard, it’s just about moving your body!

You can:

  • stretch & do yoga

  • go for a jog outside

  • lift some weights

  • do some body weight High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)

🌟 To amp it up, try to go to a gym or park.. somewhere to be around or even meet other people!

That social interaction is good for ya!

6. Declutter, clean, and/or rearrange an area of your home

If you know me, of course you know I’m going to say this one.

This makes you feel like a new person.

There’s some kind of teeny tiny identity shift deep inside of us when we change something up in our immediate space.

Plus, we all know too well that when we have a clean outer space, we feel like we have a cleaner inner space too 🥰

Put on some uplifting music, or a good podcast in the background..

Light a candle, or set up a diffuser to bring some good scent in your space..

Find a spot that feels icky to you, and give it some love.

(That’s kind of what we’re doing in tip #1 too, the inner work)

Not to mention you get some dopamine from accomplishing something!

7. Put on some uplifting music

To sing to.

(Make sure it's actually uplifting bc words have power!)

Andor/ to dance to..

(Literally shaking it out of your body)

Pay attention to how songs make you feel.

How do you want to feel?

Even though a song might sound nice, please avoid the breakup and angst songs, at least for now.

Those vibes can sink in subconsciously, and they’re definitely not something we’re going for here.

This was one of the biggest changes I started making during my transformation and it helped a ton.

You’d be amazed at how much of a difference this makes (plus removing negative news and social media!)

🌟 Create a playlist for getting yourself in a better mood.

These should be high-vibe, uplifting songs.

(You can follow my “lift me up ✨” playlist on Spotify if you want some no-words & good vibes only.)

8. Love on your pets

I love to think of our pets as little love batteries

You charge them up with love and they charge you right back and spread it wherever they go.

That’s the same with us by the way..

When we charge ourselves up with love, we radiate that love outwardly in whatever we do.

(Another reason to take advantage of this inner work time 💗)

This is also a free dose of oxytocin, the love hormone.

Hug and pamper those little boogers! 😽

9. Pamper yourself

I know this sounds cliche, but don’t forget to pamper yourself.

It’s mostly about developing the energy you want to attract 🧲

And it says to the rest of the world, “This is how I deserve to feel.”

How you treat yourself is how you teach the world to treat you.

One example I love is taking a shower or bubble bath.

Imagine the water is washing off the old, icky vibes and you come out totally cleansed and renewed.

(For an added bonus, moisturize, and massage love into your skin with healthy oils and creams while appreciating your incredible body that supports you every moment of every day.)

However else you pamper yourself, indulge!

Maybe that’s a facial, massage, hair mask, pedicure, making yourself a super healthy, nutritious dinner (because good food = good mood).. you do you.

10. Dive into a hobby or learn something new

With this wonderful inner work time or me time, it’s a good opportunity to get creative and get in flow state on something that brings you joy.

Getting in flow induces more great hormones like norepinephrine and dopamine.

These affect motivation, creativity, and learning.

What have you been wanting to try lately?

Can you start right now?

Can you at least plan to get started on that hobby?

(Like learning what tools and supplies you need.)

This is a great way to take your mind off & use your energy productively.

Go with the flow 🌊

11. Read a book outside

Now that we’ve done a lot of inner work, hopefully, we’re feeling a little better.

If we’re still needing some solo time but feeling ready to avert our attention, this is a great way to do it.

Read on your balcony, patio, at the pool, in the park under a nice tree, or at a coffee shop (again, for social interaction).

This is another easy way to get out in sunlight and in nature to get those feel-good hormones buzzing 🌞

Deep dive into a topic you love, or lose yourself in uplifting fiction.

Perhaps with some high vibing music in the background🎶

🌟 If you love to read, look for a book club to join, or consider creating one!

You could have a whole new circle of friends waiting for you.

12. Plan fun things to do with your friends

Humans are social beings and a sense of community feeds our souls.

Plan a coffee, lunch, dinner, or brunch date..

A game night, movie night, painting party, moon gathering, etc..

Something to look forward to is a surefire way to elevate your mood.

Also, when we have a plan in mind, it’s easier for people to actually accept and follow through to do it.

Utilize this me time to make plans to bring people together.

🌟 Don’t just plan it, send the invite.

Make it freaking happen!

13. Call someone just to see how they are doing

Better yet, if you can, use this as your invite to them to do something (like go out for coffee or to your place for dinner)

Be a good listener for them.

(I mean.. maybe you already are a great listener.. I’m just sayin’ 😉 )

Is there anything you can do to help them, be there for them, or just do something nice for them to make their day?

Now that we’ve hopefully taken some time to do inner work..

Take advantage of this time when you’ve slowed down enough to be a good sounding bar for others too.

We all need each other.

We all feel lonely sometimes.

This is a good opportunity to strengthen your relationships and to be of service to your loved ones 💞

Of course.. you get yet another free dose of medicine with this too.

Dopamine and oxytocin that is.

What a bonus!

14. Take yourself out on a date

Again with the pampering..

But this one invites a little more social interaction.

If you’re feeling up for it, take yourself out for coffee, dinner, a movie, a hike, a quick shopping trip..

Be out and about and around people.

Heck, you could even take yourself out for a little road trip or to the shop to pick out some flowers for yourself 💐

You deserve it.

Get out there!

🌟 If you’re in the mood for it, invite a friend!

When you learn what things help you the most with coping with those Sunday Blues, or the lonely feelings, you’re building your resiliency in a serious way.

It might take some time to figure out what works best for you personally, but enjoy figuring it out!

I guarantee that you’ll be getting out of these ruts faster..

Have them less often..

And end up coming out on the other side higher vibing than ever because you shifted your perspective and took the time to do the inner work in a healthy way 😇

Whatever reasons the blues come up, it is not your natural state.

Any negative voices that start to come up are not telling you the truth.

If you think you’re all alone, no one loves you, you don’t matter..

Please hear and know the ridiculousness in that.

You are not your emotion, you are the watcher of the emotion.

You deserve to be happy.

That is your natural state.

You are a freaking miracle, made of stardust, and you are charged by love 💖✨

Never forget that.

I sincerely hope this was helpful to you!
